Just because you’re pregnant…doesn’t mean you can’t go on vacay!

I am excited to be able to bring you a new weekly series of articles by motherhood lifestyle experts and creators of Moody Mamas & Fierce Mamas by Christian Siriano! The series is entitled “Just Because You’re Pregnant…”. Each week, they will offer an article to help clear the wives tales and fallacies that are incorporated with being pregnant.

Just because you’re pregnant…doesn’t mean you can’t go on vacay!

Sure your feet may be a bit swollen and you have an extra baby bump to carry around but that doesn’t mean you should be bound to the couch, watching Bravo re-runs for hours on end. Zip lining through the jungle and tasting cuisines of a far away land may be out of the question for now, which is why it’s the perfect time to plan a “staycation”. We’ve got plenty of ideas to keep your mind off the heat and focused on what summer should truly be about, having fun and relaxing.

•The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence…So, discover the treasures outside of your immediate surroundings. Change it up! If you live in the country or the suburbs, head into city for some urban fun. If you live in the city, get a zip car and head out to the burbs or the country. A change of scenery will do you some good and will signify “vacay”- as long as you don’t have to spend the day in a traffic jam…

•Pack a special picnic and go to the lake or beach for the day. Live near a mountain? Pack some yummy granola and go for a hike. Not feeling the outdoors or just craving air conditioning? Try checking out the museum’s latest exhibit or head to an Imax movie.

•Always jealous when you book a room for visiting guests at a hotel? Go to discount sites like www.kayak.com or www.pricelines.com and score great deals to ritzy retreats! Treat yourself to weekend away and indulge in everything the hotel has to offer from soaking up some sun (while slathered in your SPF 45 of course) at the luxurious pool or spend a tranquil day at the spa.

• While you can’t “fly away” to a foreign land, you can still indulge in foreign cuisines and pretend to be on another continent. If you are lucky enough to live in a city with a “Chinatown” or “Little Italy” head in for the day and force yourself to try new foods. If not, surf the net for something different like an “Australian” restaurant or even go Greek. Once your belly is happy, you will be too!

•Soon enough you’ll be changing diapers and planning play dates, so take a night for yourself and paint the town red. Whether it’s a hot date with your man or just time with the girls, go out for the night. Get dolled up so that you feel extra special. In the market for something gorge? Try the Fierce Mamas by Christian Sweetheart Dress (www.moodymamas.com) – you will look like a goddess!

•On a budget? Have the girls over for a DIY mani/pedi party. Take turns doing each other’s nails while sipping on virgin cocktails. Try one of our favorites White Sangria.

4 cups white grape juice
1 cup pink grapefruit juice
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 bottle of club soda
Pink grapefruit slices

•Looking to spice it up a bit? Put on your dancing shoes, preferably flats, and boogey the night away at your favorite night spot or go to a jazz club and listen to some great music.

Try these tips and trust us, after a few days of your “staycation” you and your bank account won’t even miss that trip to Paris…well, you can always still visit in your dreamsJ Now, off to buy a chocolate croissant!
