Gatorade "Beat the Heat" Twitter Party!

My boy is a superstar on the baseball field so every single weekend you can find us at the ballpark! Even this past weekend when the heat index reached 112 we were still playing baseball, THREE games in fact on that very warm day! However, I had no worries about my son staying hydrated because we left home with a cooler full of GATORADE!
I was surprised to learn that heat injuries account for the second highest but most preventable sports injury for kids. To help keep athletes safe and performing their best during the hot summer months, Gatorade and the NFL created "Beat The Heat," an educational program focusing on the dangers of heat-related illness and the importance of taking the proper steps to reduce the chance of illness and injuries.

On really hot days we pick GATORADE over water because water does not replace the electrolytes and sodium lost in sweat, so it isn't enough to Ethan against the summer heat and humidity. The right sports nutrition and hydration, including Gatorade, can play a vital role in helping Ethan get the hydration and fuel he needs to stay safe and perform his best on the baseball field.

Be sure to check out Gatorade's "Beat the Heat" program. For every unique download of the Heat Safety Kit, Gatorade will donate $1, up to $20,000, to Beat the Heat charities.

Also, Mom Central is hosting a Gatorade "Beat the Heat" Twitter Party!

The purpose of this Twitter Party is to discuss warning signs of heat illnesses and how to prevent it in your young athlete. An expert on sports nutrition and consultant to numerous professional, collegiate and high school athletic programs, registered dietitian Leslie Bonci, will participate to answer your questions. They'll be giving away Gatorade coolers, powder and $50 AMEX gift card prize packs! No RSVP required, just use the hashtag #beattheheat and join the conversation!
