Out of the Mouths of Babes

Out of the Mouths of Babes: Parenting From a Child's Perspective
After having Ella we quickly learned that parenting is not “one size fits all.” Some approaches that worked with Ethan did not stand a chance with Ella!
Dyan Eybergen, a pediatric psychiatric nurse, parent educator, therapist, and mom of three boys knows this all too well. Which is why her approach, cultivated over years of professional experience and 10 years of parenting, is meant to help us parents understand our child’s thoughts and point of view and respond to them in a way that fits their personality and level of development. This style of parenting, based on attachment theory, helped Dyan and her husband raise three boys of incredibly different temperaments without the worry and guilt that so often comes with raising children.
This book consists of EIGHT thorough chapters covering everything from potty training and sleep to sibling rivalry and self-esteem, all with related quotes from children of different ages dealing with these very issues. Whether you are a new or a seasoned parent, Dyan will certainly put the common situations that every parent faces in a new light, provide you with a wealth of new insights, and hopefully let you leave behind some of the guilt and worry as well.
We really enjoyed the reflections from a child's world throughout this book. I like how Eybergen is able to offer a unique parenting approach that this tailored to working with the personalities of individual children. This book is an excellent handbook for educating parents on how to observe and appreciate every experience through the eyes of their child. We highly recommend this resourceful book for parents of all ages.

Out of the Mouths of Babes just received a silver award from the Mom's Choice Awards of Entro Magazine for 2009 in the category of parenting.

Thanks so much to MotherTalk for this great reading opportunity!
