I actually cannot live without scissors. When I cut any meat I just use scissors much much quicker. The knives tend to get stuck on little tidbits of fat or extra skin and scissors handle much better.

Wow - all these other people live such simple lives here! I'd have a hard time choosing between my food processor, my breadmaker, or my microwave oven. This microwave oven is SOOOO cool - it has a timer to tell you how long to cook something, a "reminder" to tell you when it's a certain time, and then the usual cooking ability - BUT - you can use all 3 at the same time! And I do!

A good set of accurate measuring spoons is a must have item. Though not a gadget, the other necessity in my kitchen is a great book, Sunset's "Good Cook Handbook." It has measurement conversions, handy substitution guides, how to determine time for cooking different cuts of meat or fish. It's a wonderful reference!
